Research work

We develop neurotechnologies and approaches to interface with the central and peripheral nervous systems. Relevant applications include neuromodulation, neural recording, and neural regeneration. Our multidisciplinary research integrates knowledge from engineering, neuroscience, materials science and life sciences. Our minimally invasive approaches allow remote control on cell functionality and integration in a wide range of biological applications. For example, we connect organ function with neurological disorders to study organ-to-brain connections in health and disease with emphasis on mental health disorders. Our novel method to control organ function remotely relies on functionalized magnetic nanoparticles that can trigger activation of ion channels when exposed to alternating magnetic fields.
