Biography

Dr. Yoav Ram earned a BSc in Mathematics and Biology, followed by a PhD in Theoretical Biology via a direct PhD track, both from Tel Aviv University. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Center for Computational, Evolutionary and Human Genomics at Stanford University and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science at Reichman University (IDC Herzliya), before joining the School of Zoology at Tel Aviv University.  Yoav is a member of Safra Center of Bioinformatics, Sagol School of Neuroscience, and the Center for Combatting Pandemics. He has won grants from ISF, BSF, Templeton, and Minerva.

Research Interests

The Ram lab studies evolutionary biology, ecology, behavior, and cultural evolution using computational, mathematical, and statistical models and collaborations with experimental biologists. We use models to tackle both theoretical and concrete questions in population biology. Some of our current research interests are competition and cooperation in populations and communities; the co-evolution of the mechanisms that generate and transmit phenotypic, genetic, behavioural, and cultural variation; and the application of modern statistical methods, like Bayesian inference and deep learning, in population biology.
